2/27/06 Squat
Box squat with 3 sets chain: 135/5, 225/5, 315/4, 405/2, 495/1, 585/1 wraps, 660/1 suit, wraps, and belt. This was not a very good "feeling" rep. The strength was there, but I had a hell of a time setting up, couldn't get my feet out of the dirt and had a hard time getting set up on the box. Loose all around as well. Not tight today.

NONE. WOKE UP THIS MORNING WITH MY WHOLE NECK AND LEFT SIDE OF UPPER BACK LOCKED UP. I CAN BARELY TURN MY HEAD. I'M CERTAIN THIS IS FROM THAT BAD SET UP WITH 660+CHAINS ON TUESDAY ON THE BOX SQUAT. I IMMEDIATELY FELT IT AFTER I RACKED THE WEIGHT. EVERYTHING JUST FEELS BANGED UP NOW. I AM GOING TO CUT THE CYCLE 1 WEEK SHORT AND NOT TRY 685 NEXT WEEK AND JUST TAKE THE WEEK OFF TO HEAL UP. I AM 100% CONFIDENT THAT WEIGHT WOULD HAVE FLOWN ANYWAY. NO NEED TO RISK FURTHER INJURY. 11 STRAIGHT WEEKS OF TRAINING HEAVY DEFINATELY CATCHING UP NOW. I'LL BE AWAY HALF OF NEXT WEEK ANYWAY, SO IT WILL BE A GOOD TIME TO TAKE A BREAK.

7/4/06 Box squat test day
All reps done with 3 sets of chains:
135/5, 225/5, 315/4, 405/2, 495/1, 585/1 wraps, 685/1 full gear.
This rep was ridiculously easy. I had at least another 40lbs in there. Definately a successful squat cycle. Pretty excited about it.
No assistance work today, just testing.
7/6/06 ME Bench
No max effort bench or lat work tomorrow morning. Saving up the upper back for deadlift testing on Friday. Squat and deadlift were my focus this cycle. See how it goes. -J
7/7/06 DL testing
DL: 135/5, 225/3, 315/2, 405/1, 455/1, 495/1, 565/1, 620/1, very easy rep. Had another 15-20 in there. Very successful cycle for the squat and deadlift.
7/10/06-7/14/06, Off. No training. This is my reward for 12 grueling weeks and sweet results from it. I'm definately feeling some aches and pains. Had a hard time getting out of the car this morning from Friday's deadlift workout. Time to get some weight off my back and let the CNS heal up. Plus, I haven't even put together on paper what my next cycle will be. All I know is more KB work, Olympic movements, GHR, speed pulling, and staying heavy on the box squatting.
I will probably do some kettlebell work this week just to stay loose, but no formal training. If I do, I do, if I don't, I don't. -J

7/17/06 Speed bench/low end work
Speed bench, competition grip: 190 plus mini band, 9 sets x 3 reps. Feeling pretty strong after the week off naturally. Moving the feet in more underneath the bench to get more leg drive. Still keeping the feet flat on the ground as per USAPL rules. Man, I wish they would just let us bench on your toes. My opinion is if the foot stays on the ground and in one spot, it's legal.

Decline bench: 225/3, 315/6, stopped there cause I did not like the decline bench I was on. I need to move a decline bench into the power rack.

I have not done cleans in 7 years, since my last season of football, so not too shabby. My form was shit, but Jim was helping me with it.

I know, I'm a big fat fag!

Oh yeah, all sets had 45 seconds rest. Easy weight, I am gay as you know. Sike!

I call Steve Egan to tell him to go check so no one slips in it. Call up the tow truck. Get it towed all the way to the dealership in Norristown. My mom picks me up. Get the phone. Come home. Now I'm typing. I have no car. I did not go to work. I am stranded with little food in the house. This fuckin' sucks. Rack pull at top of knee cap(1 inch from center of knee cap) with monster mini band on bar, belt: 135/5, 225/5, 315/3, 405/3, 495/2, 585/1, 635/1, 700/miss. Not too bad. Those bands really kicked in when the bar got about 4-5 inches off the pin on 700. I did the math: At pin level, the bar weighed 733, at lockout it would have been 788. If no band were on there, it would have gone for a new rack pull PR at that height. So I'm not too upset. I did not psyche up hardy at all for these sets because I was training in the gay gym. A snort of ammonia, and that shit would be going.

650/1, new gym PR! Jim Rutter can validate this lift. It was a grinder, but she made it. I was glad to see this because it was great meet simulation. Seeing where I was at when dog-tired is a great simulator of meet conditions. Little more work and 661-72 may go. We'll see.
All in all, a good RAW cycle for the squat. I just need to stick to my training weights and not get too crazy, trying to set all these rep PR's. I should have went 585/5 today, but oh well. Still got a 600/5 3 set chain PR out of it. So I'm pleased. Four weeks of gear training now.

Boy, what a shit practice this was!! I can't stand retarded folks. First off, I should just know better. Lordy knows that ordinary muthafuckas can't appreciate or understand strength training. I actually slowed the bar down just to make sure I wouldn't crush his fingers. I got it almost locked out, but every possible distraction could have happened with these dumb muthafuckas. The only smart thing I did was get Steve to lift off for my last two reps. My bicep tendinitis is back in full force from squatting. This shit hurt something awful. Now, my bench is suspect. The only good thing I can say about the 615 is that is was almost locked out, maybe another inch, and I did not do any psyching before the lift. No going crazy.

Very realistic feel for my sticking point.

SSB good mornings, belt: 270/3, 305/3, 390/3. I hate these because they are hell on the neck. Very difficult to do.

11/28/06 Last heavy squat day.
To say the least, this was a real drag-ass day. I was up for almost two hours last night because of my 18 month olds' annoying screaming, plus I did the morning run this time as opposed to after work. So things were sluggish.
Box squat with 3 sets chain on bar: 135/8, 225/5, 315/4, 405/2, 495/2, 585/1 loose knee wraps, 710/1 straps up, semi-loose knee wraps. Had a harder time trying to find the damn box then anything. The rep was fine. Realistic feel for a 3rd attempt. The opener will be 711.

Not the ideal last workout I was looking for, wasn't that strong today, but pretty beat up all around from heavy squatting.
DL from floor with 2 sets chain, belt: 135/5, 225/3, 315/2, 405/1, 455/1, 495/1, 585/miss, 575/miss. Both misses above knee where the chain really kicks in. My best in this is 570 so I thought I'd give 585 a shot. Oh well.

12/10/06 Meet results
Had an OK day. I went for a 2000 total by taking a big jump from 601 to 661 which didn't pan out. I missed above the knee twice. Had I just gone for like 639-650, I would have brought home a 1978-84 total. Plus I really left alot on the platform in the squat and bench. 777 squat, 562 bench, 661/miss. 1940 total. 2000 is definately there, at least another 20 in the squat and bench with a lighter deadlift. We'll see in March. Learned some good things in this meet, so it's not a total loss. I know 2000+ is there right now, just not in the lifts I thought it was. Underestimated by squat and bench, and overestimated my pull. More of a tune up for States. I'm not sweatin' this, it's something to learn from.

I must say, this new suit is a fuckin' beast. I was exhausted after this session of fighting the suit, so I'll do the rest of my shit tomorrow. I can say right now, this suit will require a heavier opener in a meet. At least 733, maybe more. I'll have to see what the weeks bring. If I don't feel confident by the time states roll around, then I may just do bench only, because I won't regress to the old suit just to get a lift in. I still think this is probably one of the most brutal low end movements you can do for your bench. Actually, I didn't have a pin high enough, so the bar basically started about an inch indented into my chest, so I couldn't arch either, I did these flat backed. The pec strain and grinding effect of these is just retarded. I did do a 475/1 with the bar at the chest before, but it was a competition grip and had mad arch going on.

Notes: It's amazing how cheap and retarded my old Inzer Hardcore squat suit feels now that I am using a real suit to squat in. For shits and giggles, I put the straps up on it, and no shit, just squatted below parallel with no weight on my back. Sad. Good news is, I basically squatted 777 with more in the tank in my last meet wearing a belt and knee wraps, because that suit didn't give shit to my lift. An easy 777 in a belt and knee wraps. I feel pretty good about that. My goal for mid-year is to hit 745-765 with knee wraps, belt, and straps up with chains on the bar.
This sumo thing is one practice away of being put to bed permanently. I just can't get the handle on it. I tried it with suit bottoms on for fun today, and it just doesn't feel right at all. I am just going on the Steve Pulcinella theory of "get your squat stronger, and your deadlift will get stronger". So far it holds true. Back in March 06, I pulled 628 to the same height I just missed 661 from. So the pull is getting stronger, no doubt. I need to do a better job at selecting attempts in the dead to showcase it. I firmly believe that for a guy like me to pull 700, my squat needs to be close to 850-880, based on how I'm built. -J

I couldn't tell you how much all that shit is. If I had to guess, I'd said the monster minis gave 120-150 at the top, plus 60lbs of chain at the top. So I suppose my last GRINDING single at 535 was 745 at the top. I really couldn't tell you, I'm just guessing. I did this for a reason. Anybody who knows me knows my lockout in the dead is for shit. Since I can use pretty heavy weights at and above the knee, I can't use as much free weight below the knee for obvious leverage reasons. I don't want to give up my overload at the top, so I added as much shit as I could to get that heavy overload, while still being in the mid 6's below the knee. Best of both worlds. This week is going to be a lower body deload week. I plan to test on Thursday in a new Titan shirt, so I'm giving my shoulders and biceps a break from heavy squatting. My lower back is pretty tore up from all the squatting without a belt. So it's a pretty good time to get some rest. After this week, it will be 17 more weeks until St. Louis. Thursday will be my last training day, ME bench, of the week. Depending on how it goes, if all goes well, I may give the shirt a test run at PA states next weekend. Bench only. Everything has to go right on Thursday however.

Naturally, the weight felt heavy due to no squatting last week, so I expect this to be better next week. After all, it's week 1 of 16. I have added inches to my chest and back, so it has become more of a pec exercise then a tricep exercise. I have been getting worse at these while my high end work is going through the roof. That's all for this week. I am not a huge fan of "deload" weeks because I just feel all gay and small, but I definately felt I could use this week after 6 weeks of extreme training. Two days this week and that's all. Next week, we're back to ass-kicking weights. In 3 weeks, gotta set a PR in the box squat for reps. In another couple weeks I'll be benching at Nikos meet up in Shrewsbury where I hope to crack 600 on May 26th, so I had better get some shirt time in, since I have done NONE so far. Whatever, fuck it, it's just for fun.
I'm going to be making some adjustments to the squat routine in the next 9 weeks. I will gradually introduce more gear rather than throw it all on at once like I used to do. I think this won't be so much of a shock to my CNS when I go heavy. In another month I'll start using wraps, then strapping up.

I will go out on a limb here and be humble enough to say that I believe this shirt is just plain too aggressive for my current strength levels. I just can't touch in good form. It is what it is. I can be honest about this, since I know my own strength, and I just don't feel confident enough to use a shirt this tough until I get stronger. My plan is to compete in the Rage X for next Saturday's meet. I just can't do anything with the Katana right now. This Monday I'll take a test drive just to make sure I remember the Rage X shirt, then see what goes down on Saturday. If I can get a 5lb PR, I'll be happy.
